I am excited to invite you to a special creative experience! This event is proudly organized by Örebro Läns Museum as part of the Ung Slöjd youth festival. I will be hosting a hands-on woodcarving session where you can learn the basics and carve your wooden amulet from simple pre-cut shapes and customize it as your own.

Alongside my woodcarving workshop, the festival will feature several other exciting crafts, including ceramics, papercrafting, redesign, and a fashion show.

The workshop is completely FREE and open to everyone aged 13–25. Whether you are a total beginner or looking to develop your existing skills, you are warmly welcome to join us.

A gentle introduction to wood and symbolic carving, inspired by the spirit of Samhain —

the turning of the year, when the veil between the material and the spiritual worlds is

the thinnest and we are closest to our lost loved ones. So, your amulet can represent a

person you want to remember, something you want to carry with you into the darker

season, or maybe something that protects you.

During this workshop, you will create your own small wooden amulet using simple

hand tools from branches or pieces of bark. The shape, pattern or meaning are up to you

with regard the time frame. You also have the opportunity to colour or coat your piece.

No previous experience is needed. The aim is to slow down, work with the material and

create something that has meaning for you. However, please note that we might use

sharp tools.

All materials and tools are included, but you are welcome to bring your own extra

materials (e.g. laces or beads) for your own amulet.

A deeper woodcarving experience for those who want to work more directly with the

wood in this workshop inspired by Samhain as a time of transition, remembrance and

new beginnings. As we are reaching the time when the material and the spiritual world

are the closest to each other, your amulet can become a small personal symbol of

something or someone you lost but want to carry close to your heart.

You will carve a simple wooden amulet from a prepared piece of wood, using traditional

hand tools. You can choose a simple pre-cut shape and then personalise and Hinalise it

yourself, including colouring and/or coating.

No previous woodcarving experience is necessary. The aim is to slow down, work with

the material and create something that has meaning for you. However, please note that

we use sharp tools including carving knives, saws and hand drills.

All materials and tools are included, but you are welcome to bring your own extra

materials (e.g. laces or beads) for your own amulet.

the spirit of Art-tober. We are carving for 31 days together, every day 15 minutes,

and share our experiences with each other from 1st till 31st October asynchronously

(as it fits in your schedule) and debrief weekly online.

You don’t need to be an experienced woodcarver. This is the best chance to:

• start an old dream;

• try something new;

• create your own routine of something you are interested about;

• or find your passion and motivation again.

What is included?

• introduction to and instructions to the very basic carving techniques;

• live online check-ins on every Wednesday 6-7 pm CET;

• access to a private Discord woodcarving group as support.

The few things you require for this workshop are:

• your favourite carving knife;

• some piece of wood or twigs;

• a camera/smartphone to take pictures of your results;

• good internet connection;

• a little corner just for you.
